Denmark’s most beautiful festival has optimised the foundation for all the fun, festivity, and entertainment thanks to several digital solutions from Venue Manager. Festival guests can easily and quickly buy tickets, merchandise, and extra experiences in one complete web shop, while avoiding overpriced resold tickets and freeing themselves from the well-known camp panic on the opening day.
To make the fun even more fun, and to ensure that all the practicalities take place as easily and smoothly as possible for the organisers and the festival participants, in recent years, Smukfest has collaborated with Venue Manager on new digital solutions that optimise the conditions for the beautiful, festive days in the beech forest.
The collaboration between Smukfest and Venue Manager has resulted in a web shop where sales of tickets, merchandise, and extra experiences are gathered in one place. The web shop works with digital products. This means that a purchased ticket is a digital product that only culminates in a physical ticket when the festival approaches, solving several problems that have been well known in the industry for many years:-
“When we start ticket sales, all full festival passes are sold out in a single hour, so it’s important for people that they can easily hand over their purchased tickets to friends or resell them if they are unfortunately prevented from participating”, says Smukfest IT Manager Peter H. Kragelund.
“Our entire architecture around digital products enables people to easily resell their tickets, give them to others, or sell them to people on a waiting list. This provides security and reduces the risk of black-market trading, fake tickets, and overpricing”, he adds.
According to Peter H. Kragelund, the fast ticket sales also place great demands on the robustness of the system:
“There is pressure on the system when we start selling tickets. Therefore, it is also absolutely crucial for us to have a partner like Venue Manager who makes sure that things work and who will go all the way when it comes to developing optimal solutions according to our needs.”
Festival opening days can be marked by long queues and panic situations, where people crowd into the square to save themselves several tent sites next to each other. At Smukfest, that time is over, to the great advantage of the guests. With the Venue platform, they can create a camp in the system in advance and be allocated specific locations, so they can find their spot in peace on the opening day.
Venue Manager also provides access control to Smukfest. This is a mix of access turnstiles, wall-hung boxes where guests can scan their tickets, as well as hand scanners around the forest:
“Access control can be complicated – especially when it comes to festivals. There are several different ticket types and wrist bands that give access to different areas on different days. Therefore, the festival site is divided into different zones, to which Venue Manager’s systems control access. This must be smooth and problem-free with a good flow and satisfied guests”, says Peter Richardt, Business Director at Venue Manager.
